About This Area

NC 50 and 210 Hwy (McGee’s Crossroads Community) isn't a town, in fact most of the addresses in this area are mostly Benson or Angier addresses. McGee’s Crossroads is an unincorporated community that existed way before I-40 was ever built. The actual crossroads are at the location of NC Highway 50 and NC Highway 210 in Johnston County. At that time, much of the area was strictly a farming community and as far as you could see were fields of tobacco and corn. Currently the community extends to the intersection of I-40 and NC Highway 210 resulting in an “interstate town”, much in the way townships grew along the early American railroads. With the rapid population growth extending from the Raleigh-Durham area, McGee’s Crossroads is a thriving community that continues to grow.

Who founded McGee’s? McGee’s Crossroads was named by the late Rudolph Jones, when he sat on the State Highways Commissioners as Chairman. Mr. Jones was a lifelong resident of the community and had great pride in it. The actual name came from a resident named John McGee that ran a country store there.
